The Mississippi River Trail is a 2,142 mile long trail that runs along roads and trail and
spans the length of the Mississippi River. It is intended to be traveled by bike. Many
parts of it could be traveled by car or motorcycle, but there are bike paths on some
stretches that cannot be traveled by motorized vehicle.
We tried to stay on paved sufaces the entire distance, but it is possible some of this is on
roads that contain a bicycle path, or less traveled roads. We also tried to stay relatively
close to the river.
There is no write-up on this trail, so we suggest you do careful planning before you get on
the trail. E-mail us if you need help viewing the trail on a map. The map provided above does
not supply the detail needed for careful trip planning. Plan cautiously if you plan to take this trip.
Please send trail suggestions to us at temp4@mflan.com. Perhaps you have found a better
route for some section. Perhaps our track points are off in certain areas and you would
like for us to correct that. If you obtain a GPX track from riding the trail, please do send
that to us. We hope you enjoy it out there.
If you want more detailed maps of this trail you can create them yourself in QGIS. Keep in
mind that if
you pay for maps on numerous sites that offer them, it is unlikely their trail will be
identical to the trail provided on this website.
We can provide trail data in GPX, Text, Shapefile, and other formats. Right
now it is necessary for you to ask for this data by emailing me at:
temp4@mflan.com
Later there will be a way for you to download it directly.
If you have trail data to submit, please send it our way. We would like any trail data
in any format that you have. GPX and KML are best, but we take any format.
Note that the maps below are not good enough resolution to plan your trip.
Get the GPX file above and e-mail me at temp4@mflan.com
for instructions on how to use the GPX file.
