General Information

The purpose of this website is to be a data repository
for cemeteries in the USA. Data collected includes, but
is not limited to, Cemetery Name, Cemetery Varient Names,
Location, Historical Information, Burial Listings, etc.
Active, Inactive, Relocated, Bulldozed with Burials in Place,
etc. cemeteries are listed if they are known. Please add
cemeteries that you know of.

The criteria for a cemetery to be listed is a bit ambiguous,
but cemeteries that have an identified location are included.
Cemeteries with UNKNOWN location are also included if there is
sufficient evidence that they existed and they are not already
in the database under another name.

This site is designed from the perspective of the cemetery
name and location. It is currently not possible to do a
"lookup" of a particular burial on this site. Other sites
like FindaGrave provide that function and do a good job of it.
We also do not use Township names, except maybe in the
Additional Information files. For locations we only classify
cemeteries by State, County, and Lat/Long.

The area covered is currently the 50 United States. There are
plans to expand it to other countries, but that is a future item.

Gathering data for the 50 United States is a daunting task.
We estimate that this depository holds less than 20% of the
cemeteries in the US, and very likely less than 10%. The
current record count is in excess of 147,800 cemeteries. Some
states have very few records, like AK (19 records) and AZ
(316 records) and UT (420 records). Others have quite a few,
like TN (12,740 records) and GA (6,040 records).

We encourage you to contribute any information on cemeteries that
you may have. Any information you supply is much appreciated, but
notices of single burials will probably not show up on the website.
That information will be included in the main database however.

This site was started in late 2008 and is updated every couply of months.

This site is very sensity to abuse, especially by hackers.
It's set so sensitive, it's likely to shutdown, possibly even under
normal use. If you find it shutdown, it will probably be
restarted within a few days or so, but it may be loaded to a
new URL weblink if hacker abuse is responsible. If the site
is shutdown and you'd like password controlled access to the
site, e-mail us at:
usceminfo@mflan.com

This site is free. There are no tracking cookies, spyware, or
the like. Monetary donations are not sought or needed. Use the
site gratis for your needs. If you feel compelled to make a
contribution, contribute information about any cemeteries you
know of. A simple Google search will turn up tons of information
on cemeteries. Submit a URL link to a cemetery, or a whole county
of cemeteries.

Submissions of contributed information will probably show up on
the website within a week or so.

Yes, the appearance of this website is pretty crude. My HTML
skills are severely lacking. But it is likely to improve with
time.
